Missed Church

Well, we missed church today. =( Lorna woke up coughing in the middle of the night and I was up with her for a while. I guess she has a cold. I was terribly exhausted so I decided to stay home from church. Also I didn't want Lorna to get worse or make any other kids sick. Clint was going to go but saw how tired I was and stayed home so I could sleep. I REALLY appreciate him!
We still grabbed a bite out after I woke up, just to get out of the house. He is usaully stuck in the bedroom studying all day when he is home. It is nice to get out for some relaxed time. Several hours later we went to say farewell to the Thompsom's. The are moving back to Washington Monday or Tuesday. Moody reopended it's Aviation program. Mark is going to attend school there. BTW-They bought a calf with some one( bought 1/2 and had it slaughtered) it was raised free range w/o antibiotics and such...and they are trying to sell the meat they have left over from it. I think they are selling it for $3.50 a pd? I believe the Granary sell's meat there for $5.** a pd? If anyone is interested let me know by the earliest you can tomorrow. They can't take it with them on such a long trip. The money would help them out too. Just let me know.
Here are some pictures of my sister Dinah. She is sporting some new tatoo's. One is a flower on her neck. The other is a cartoon-like fish on her leg. She got the fish because it reminds her of a cartoon character we use to watch when were kids called"Small Fry".
Clint's "O's and P's" test is this week. Please pray for him to have peace and to pass. He has so much to study still. However, I know that God will get hime through this. God is so good!
I need advice. Lorna is still extremely picky with her food. We always make her atleast TRY her food, thinking she will decide it is not all that bad and eat it. However, she just spits all out. I have swatted her for it, but that doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have any advice? I am so frustrated about it. I know that she is not getting all the nutrients she needs. She is addicted to starches! This is what she will eat...yogurt(plain),banana's, bear mush cereal, milk, granola, mushed peas, potatoes, cracker, and chicken nuggets( frozen grocery store bag). I have tried rice, fish, hamburger, grilled chicken, and a variety of vegies. Is this good enough for her right now? I am worried about her health.

start by giving her a small amount of a food she doesn't normally like. let's say carrots. give her four carrot slices and NOTHING else. (don't even tell her or show her other food) if she spits them out, say no, and swat her mouth (well i would), tell her "we don't spit out food" and put it back on the plate/highchair. keep on until she eats it. if she doesn't eat all of them within a certain amount of time (like 15minutes)then put her down. set a time for her to be down. and if she's says she's hungry, say "you need to eat your carrots" then after the set amount of time, put her back up and give her the carrots again (if you need to get new ones then do so) tell her "eat your carrots" and repeat as many times as necessary until she eats them all. DO NOT GIVE HER ANYTHING ELSE!!!! she KNOWS that you will give in eventually, which is why she won't eat what you give her. with sam, he's old enough now that i can show him a cookie and say eat all that's on your plate and you'll get the cookie (not as a bribe, just as a fact) with micah though, i can't even show her the cookie, otherwise she only focuses on the cookie and can't focus enough about the food on her plate. some kids can regulate/balance what they eat, but MOST need you to regulate it for them. so don't give her two or three things to choose from if you only want her to eat the carrots, it's confusing and frustrating for them. don't even mention the "other" food. after she eats the four carrots, then increase it to six the next time and so on with each food until she eats the amount you want her to. remember too that there are times of BIG growth and little growth, so sometimes she'll need to eat a TON and other time she won't. also try to think about if it's certain meals that she doesn't eat alot. if she eats alot at breakfast but not at lunch, then give her more veggies at breakfast and the starchier foods at lunch. YOU CAN DO IT!!! and you're already doing a great job!!!!
ohyeah, after she's eats her carrots... praise her for eating her food like a big girl or something like that. then just say. "Ok, now eat your cracker." the cracker (or whatever) just happens to be the next thing on the menu for the meal, and isn't necessarily a reward. you want her to learn that the cracker isn't the goal, but the yummy carrots are the goal so in the long run she isn't just eating her food to get to the "dessert" so to speak, but learns to enjoy the carrots. ok i'm shutting up now!!!
Thanks Dana! I really needed to hear that. I guess it will be a daily battle for awhile ,but it will be worth it. I am so scared of allowing bad eating habbits with the obesity problems that our country has. Junk food every where! Thanks girl!
